Little Egret hunting among the rock-pools, Cornwall, October 2021. How large and brightly coloured its feet were!

My work is based on a joy of deep connection in the moment with subjects in the natural world.

I mix, splash, slide and pull inks onto paper, to recreate the sensation of those moments. Enhancing my experience of my natural subject’s character, behaviours, movements, shapes and colours. The inks may pull at the paper as they dry, creating radiating light and shadow, increasing the feeling of energy and life.

By sharing my paintings, I aim to create a sense of artist, viewer and subject meeting and connecting within the natural world.

I love how much character the coastal birds in Cornwall have. Today the turnstones were particularly entertaining! I watched a group of them from a cliff top, as they ran around, very busily flipping stones and moving seaweed.

Over the past five years, Red Kites have made their home in Bruton and have become a familiar, but still inspiring, sight.

I’ve often had the joyful experience of a Red Kite gliding and swooping above me, as I walk around the town.

There is something I find mesmerising in their effortless grace, as they balance themselves with wings and tail.

My work is based on a joy of deep connection in the moment with subjects in the natural world.
