It is hard to describe when you feel drawn to something for for some inexplicable reason, and the reference image for this was one of those moments. There is a closeness in the landscape surrounding the road which feels inviting, making you curious to see exactly where this road leads.

'Distant Mountains' is a 6x6 inch acrylic painting on paper, mounted in an 8x8 mount in a deep stepped wooden frame.
I am drawn to landscapes that have contrast such as this one, from the snow-capped mountains to the closer warmth of the colours in the foreground, it was this feeling that I wanted to create; of admiration from a distance.

'Dune' is a 50x50 cm oil painting on a deep edge canvas.
My inspiration for 'Dune' was watching the film with the very same name. The desert is renowned as being a very barren, inhospitable landscape. But, on a second glance, there is comfort in the solitude, the imposing dunes with soft edges and a wealth of rich, warm colours. The dunes themselves are grandiose and imposing, dark shadows contrast harshly against golden highlights, all stretching as far as the eye can see. I had never thought of painting sand dunes before this, but this film really altered my perception of a desert; I find them rather beautiful.
